It looks like the Disneyland Resort has quietly removed the popular song “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” from its music loop across the Esplande and Downtown Disney, The song was typically played between the Frozen Medley and The Ballad of Davy Crockett, but no longer plays with the rest of the loop.
Back in June, The Walt Disney Company announced that they would be reimagining Splash Mountain at both U.S. parks. The new attraction will be based on the 2009 film The Princess and the frog. It will replace the 30-year-old attraction based on the controversial movie Song of the South – where “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” is prominently featured, in light of the state-of-affairs of the country right now, Disney has seen some backlash with the attraction and its connection to 1940’s Disney film that has some pretty dated racial undertones.

The song, sung by the films star James Baskett, won the Academy Award for “Best Song” in 1947, a ceremony Baskett could not attend. The song was the second in a long line of Disney songs to win this award, after “When You Wish upon a Star” from Pinocchio. In 2004 it finished at number 47 in AFI’s 100 Years…100 Songs, a survey of top tunes in American cinema.
It is unknown at this time if Disney has removed “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” due its connection to Song of the South or if the company plans to keep in rotation.
